Professional Showcase by the
World Professional Classic Showdance Champions
Jonathan Wilkins and Katusha Demidova, now Seven-time United States Professional Ballroom Champions and Two-time United States Professional Show dance Champions, are living a career that most dance couples only dream about.
Known for their elegant, classic style and flawless technique, Jonathan and Katusha have proven to be unbeatable in the U.S., winning every major competition many times over including the Ohio Star Ball, Embassy Ball, Manhattan Dancesport, Millennium Dancesport, Yankee Classic, Emerald Ball, Nevada Star Ball, Texas Challenge, Heritage Classic, LaClassique du Quebec, Philadelphia Festival, Capital Dancesport, Empire State Dance Sport, Sarasota DanceSport and Virginia State Championships.
Internationally, they are reaching a pinnacle, recently gaining the title of World Show dance Champions (2004). They are also three time British Open finalists (2000-2004), placing third in 2004 at the world's most prestigious competition in Blackpool, England; and they are five-time finalists in the World Standard Championships (1999-2004).
Both Jonathan and Katusha started dancing at an early age and never veered from the path. Jonathan grew up in Slough, a suburb west of London, where his mother sent him to a local dance school (now regarded as a training ground for champions).
Katusha was born in Moscow, Russia and had early training as an ice skater before she started ballroom. Both achieved strong records dancing in the Juvenile (under 12) and Junior (12-16) categories and as amateurs. At 19 Jonathan turned professional and came to the U.S. to teach and compete.
Katusha turned professional when she was only 17. The two originally met in England while visiting for coaching with their respective partners and became friends. Katusha came to America in 1994 to dance with a partner in California, and when that dissolved, ended up in New York at the time that Jonathan was looking for a new partner. They joined forces, quickly becoming not only the youngest, but the most successful professional couple in America. They have enjoyed a wonderful professional and romantic partnership ever since.
The couple are highly committed to their dancing and maintain a disciplined practice schedule while fitting in other physical training methods like Yoga and Pilates. Though based in New York City, they maintain a home in London where they travel regularly for coaching. Though dancing numerous competitions each year and performing dozens of shows all over the world, they still maintain a strong base of students, and enjoy teaching both professional couples and amateurs. Their students rank among the best competitive couples in the country. In the U.S. they are based at Ballroom on Fifth dance studio in New York City.
Though happy with their accomplishments, Jonathan and Katusha are determined to go all the way. Their goal is to become World Champions and to win the British Open at Blackpool. " It would be our dream come true," says Jonathan. "We do all we can to be the best."
